Guided cycling tour
We will take over our rented ebikes at the local bike rental and will then cycle around Breisach’s Münsterberg (cathedral hil). The squares, towers and fortress walls which we pass on the way are firmly linked to the city’s long history. After crossing the Rhine, we reach neighboring Alsace. Shortly behind the border we head north and will follow the path along the Rhine-Rhone Canal for a few kilometers. Then the tour will take us to Neuf-Brisach, Breisach’s twin town. Built in the late 17th century under Louis XIV by his fortress builder Sebastian de Vauban, the entire place has been a “UNESCO World Heritage Site” since 2008. We will take the path through the ramparts surrounding the impressive bastion. On the former parade ground we take a pleasant break with “Café and Petit Pain” in one of the small cafés/tea rooms (of course it can also be tea and croissants). From here it is only a few kilometers over the bridge back to our starting point.
The route is approx. 25 km long, mainly flat and takes us mainly on paved paths, sometimes on roads with little traffic. The pace is leisurely.
